Wal-Mart-ing of Software: A CEO's Viewpoint
http://www.ftponline.com/weblogger/forum.aspx?ID=1&DATE=02/23/2004
Jim Fawcette (of Fawcette Technical Publications) offers this story about how executives see programmer's jobs.

Here's the line that made my jaw drop. Jim was talking to some executives: "Programming is a commodity, grunt work," said the board member. "Software isn't different from the textile industry," the CEO said.

WHAT? I mean, ... WHAT?!?!

Wow. So much for my idea that being in charge of a company meant that you had to have a pretty good idea of what was going on in the world, let alone your industry.

I think this would be an excellent partner program in my idea to create a Developers Group in the Valley. <% writeAmountOfComments(107611638723718005) %> comments

I think it's quite possible, even likely, with just a little bit of a push in the right direction, that we could achieve this vision. <% writeAmountOfComments(107611632997740068) %> comments

Alan McBee's various technical thingamabobs and whatchamawhoozits

This weblog is devoted to the technical and sometimes business oriented things I think of and come across during my working day.

I own Developer Vision, devoted to creating software tools and components.

I also keep a personal website with its own blog.
